Quickly reading through this thread am I right in concluding that the majority of people feel that they would rather 'win' under a breed specialist? And therefore possibily it is the 'great' dogs used by the discerning & knowledgeable breeders that drive the breed forward?

And I think a 'Hall of Fame' thread & the reasons why seems a very good idea as with the correct input everyone can learn why its felt they contributed to the breed

I think that it would be great fun to start a Hall Of Fame so maybe we should get our thinking caps on and come up with categories, after all football has taken over the telly at the moment and with two males in my house I dont have a chance!! Before we get into that though one dog of recent times I feel I must mention is Ch Khabaray Single Malt of Dumbriton. 32 or 33 C.Cs all under different judges, sire of amongst others the beautiful Ch Bayard Islamist of Dumbriton and he is ofcourse grandfather of top winning bitch Ch Courthill Cast A Shadow.Nicky

I had forgotten this dog had already been mentioned, very nearly posted him again.

I think Esmee brings it absolutly up to date.

please dont be rude about something you know very little about .

Jackie if i knew nothing about the subject i would say nothing but owning showing breeding racing lure coursing & working whippets from the early 80s i have picked on up 1 or 2 things i have tested show whippets with CCs at racing & working & bred from the same bitch & produced dogs & bitches that could race show work & who also won CCs & who's offspring became a show Champion.

Now Jackie can i ask you how have you tested your whippets & what gives you knowladge & the authority to tell me i know nothing as im intrigued. :- "

Good post Beaker you do test your whippets in more ways than 1 & they have proved themselves to be Mulitpurpose whippets.

Looks like not all show people are the friendly, happy, helpful type you would have us believe if what you are saying is true.

Of course people winning under said judge would not agree anyway, everybody thinks they have the best dog and rightly so.

It's a shame when a hobby becomes an obsession instead of an enjoyment.

I THINK YOU COVERED IT ALL IN THIS POST

Come on guys there is one breed, The Whippet.

Whatever we choose to do with our dogs i.e show, course, race etc it is still one breed and hopefully long may we enjoy doing whatever we choose.

But we must appreciate each others view on how we choose to enjoy our hobby and best keep the dogs interest at heart.

So as the original post asked.....what are the comments on what drives a breed & from there the post included 'greats'. Now I am sure there are many from all parts of the Whippet........so can we have a discussion on these with input on why and how?

As to the point on a few not letting a Whippet be a Whippet, free running & hunting etc etc I am sure the majority would not applaud this either.

I also do not think it is helpful, or in context really, to slate Judges & judging. It is an honour to judge your breed but as in all walks of life it is subjective for a variety of reasons.

And I am sorry if a few spectators find us unhelpful but as Jax rightly said sometimes we are so involved in what we are doing we forget our manners, our apologies

well said, we should all just enjoy our lovely breed  there is room for everyone.

RE being unfriendly at shows, can i just appologise if i come accross a bit stand offish at shows, i get really nervous when i'm showing and struggle to string a coherant sentence together :b

For starters, why would I want to test my whippets ? Ive bred mine for showing , they all have free running ,some will chase ,some are not interested ( much the same as racing bred ones I would have thought ;) ) At least 6 of mine that I have now have caught and killed their quarry. but as we only have Crows , seaguls, Canadian geese and the very odd rabbit I dont think thats too bad. A whippet dosnt have to kill something to prove its a whippet does it ?

You stick to what you enjoy and ill stick to what I enjoy .

thank you . Jackie , today is not a good day for me to get into disagreements :(

Lets just agree to differ .

this is my last post on this subject that has completly gone off topic

it's inapropriate to THIS section, thats where the complaint is,

just like it would be inappropriate to put bull fighting on the disney channel,

amuse yourselves in a different manner than goading others, you are not championing your sport in this way just sullying your own reputations.

before a good thread gets closed lets not feed trolls and try and get back on topic..

i think the good breeders are ultimately the only ones who drive a breed,

great dogs don't often happen by accident, there is usually a skilled "stockmans eye" and a lot of planning that has gone into a quality dog, this applies to all fields of whippetdom not just showing

judges can only pick from what is presented to them, if there were no good example dogs for them to champion then the breed would loose drive and direction altogether

great producers like Fergal would have gone unrecognised had the breeders not picked up on his ability to produce quality.

so my rambling round about opinion is i think that it's ultimately the choices made by the breeders that drive and direct a breed

Ok Jackie the reason anyone would want to test their whippets would be to find out if their stock were sound enough to do what they were origanaly bred for before using that stock to breed on you can see a lot of faults in a good show/race/working bred whippet in all their different movements walking trotting & flat out running.

I agree lets just agree to differ here is a show bitch that i tested before i bred form her with her offspring.

Have just deleted several posts by several different people on both sides of the last argument as this thread is in danger of being closed.

On another note, I have noticed several posts suggesting that only show people or "people who know what they are talking about" should post on this forum and suggestions that they should go and post elsewhere. This is something I have noticed several times in other threads on this forum (usually by the same people) so can I remind those responsible that this forum is open to all members.

New topics should be appropriate to the forum or they will be moved but this should not exclude any member from taking an interest or having an opinion.

I think this year it must be Ch Peperone Solid Gold. I'm probably wrong though!!

Interesting.....so what is the common sire(s)/dam(s) behind those two who could be said to have been an influence on them?

It has also been nice to see a couple of dogs winning their first ticket this year.

So far we've had Elmanash Major General and Nevedith Mfa Markwis at Marimay.

Have there been any others I have missed?

A first thought.........both go back to N. Justa Jesta & B. Forever Love, Esmee through D. Rainon to Single Malt to D. Casting Stone & him through D. Joking Apart to N. Justa Joy to N. Rare Rogue

hope I'm correct in these details :b

Any thoughts/comments?
