It was 21c here this afternoon and Jasper's useless in the heat, but still insists on his 2pm walk. We ambled to the park and spent a lot of time just sitting in the shade.
His muzzle was off and on - he can pant in it no problem but there'll be a bit more airflow without it and of course I have to take it off to offer him drinks. The chances of him needing it are tiny, but it's a bit like a seat belt - you don't expect to need it but... So some of the time I took it off and kept him on lead because it wasn't as if he felt like running anyway.
We met his 'special' friend, Fonzie, but Jasper definitely wasn't interested in a bit of bromance today!
OH has the car today but tomorrow afternoon we can head up the woods where there's plenty of shade and water.

Thankyou, his full name is Pork Chops,( sorry, I talk like he's my dog but obviously he isn't) but I call him Chops or Choppy chops for short! That's all the boys I walk, Titan has featured in another post,(my naughty Leonberger cross, who's back on long line walks, but we don't talk about that!). I'll post some pics of my lovely girls next time...

Today is full of promise the sun was shining even though it was still chilly. The mist hung so low on the fields that it looked like snowfall and Murphy had fun playing hide and seek.

Jasper had a little cool-off in the lake:
He seems to get an itchy face when he's been having a little fun, so likes to rub it in the gorse. Does anyone else's dog do this? People assume he's either trying to get his muzzle off or rubbing something stinky onto his skin, but even as a pup, before he wore muzzles on walks, when we came back from a walk he'd stick his head on a heather conveniently growing in the front garden.
You know how silly thoughts pop into your head that you then have to tell yourself are really not good ideas? At one point I was waiting for him to stop moving so I could get a decent photo, and then I saw he was sniffing out the perfect spot to cock his leg. One part of my brain said, 'Yes! He'll stop moving when he does that, here's your chance!' but then another part of my brain pointed out that no one wants to see a photo of Jasper having a wee

He's a bit 'special'... He's friendly when he meets people (particularly if they have treats), but sometimes suddenly decides they're a bit scary so thinks he needs to be scarier
And in certain circumstances, such as a child running up wanting to cuddle him, someone grabbing his collar, or if he raided someone's picnic and they tried to get their sandwich back... it could go badly. According to behaviourists, he just seems to be hard-wired that way. Plus he does have what it takes to catch and dispatch a rabbit or deer, so the muzzle reduces his ability to do this.He's completely used to it - I know he doesn't mind it because he's the sort of dog who would kick up a fuss about having it put on if he did

i like the idea of small furies, but i think in this context, it's probly meant as "furries".
[My colt Finnegan used to pull the "Fury of Broken-Wheel Ranch" pose, & rear over the hood of certain vehicles, such as the coal-delivering diesel dump-truck in winter; it didn't go over well.
I was at college, & he'd escaped the pasture by stepping over the fence -- deep snow, packed by hooves, gave him a leg-up to cross the 5-ft barrier. My mum had to call on reinforcements to get him back into the fence, as the driver refused to deliver B4 he was safely confined!]

This morning the bridge to our fav walking place had been repaired so Murphy was off lead and he really enjoyed himself!

Another day, another heath... We went the long way round Upton Heath this morning. Jasper always asks to go the long way but for most of the year it's really muddy and the rest of the time it's usually too hot, with too far between water stops. This morning it was only 16-17c, but very sunny, and Jasper had to take a break in the shade.
Still, once he'd recovered it wasn't far to the watering hole
