:D Good evening everyone. Greetings from Suffolk. I've only just managed an internet connection and can see that i've missed a lot of the action

I've got the finals results but as some of you have mentioned already, our day was marred to a degree by a nasty leg injury to Banatay Bertie which we hope he can recover from. If Jemma ,his owner reads our thread ,we wish him all the luck in the world :luck:

The main event was won by Surrey Hills The Witching Hour owned by Paul and Jenny Mitchell

Could someone please explain to an ignorant Yank what "The Main Event" is?

Thanks very kindly in advance-

Karen Lee

breeder of The Witching Hour!

I can only follow her exploits through here :- " as her owners don't do e-mail or internets, I guess.

The main event is the ' The main Final' winner overall, someone else could probably explain it better :)

Hi Karen :D I wonder if your ears were burning on Sunday as myself and Mr and Mrs Mitchell were talking about you a little :b They were very disappointed to know after the event that you judged this year at EAWC as they would have loved to have seen you. I am under strict instructions that should I find out you are coming over again that I contact them immediately (w00t)

I'll try and explain the event, but someone else may have to step in in case I get something wrong :b

You start with 32 dogs that are paired against each other.

They all run a course and the judge decides which dog is the winner by raising either a red or white handerchief. This corresponds to the collars that the dogs are wearing

You will notice that some dogs are wearing blue collars  This is because should your partner fail to arrive at the event, or your partner is injured, you get a 'bye' i.e. your dog is automatically through to the next round. They must run the course so that they have completed as many runs as all the other dogs, but they go straight through. Many people choose to find a 'bye' dog i.e. someone to run with your own to make the course more exciting, and also the dogs do work better in pairs (IMHO) All of the dogs who had a bye on Sunday ran with a partner

(On a side note, Ruso's claim to fame is that he was the bye dog for Spry (w00t) )

So, the winner of each course in the first round goes through to the 'Main Event' in this case The Dent Challenge. Those knocked out in the first round go through to the Purse.

You are therefore running against the winner of the course next to you on the card. These are paired up and again, the winners stay in the main event, the losers go over the card into the purse.

If you lose your third course, you are out and run no more.

I think it is if you lose in the Purse in your third round, you go through to the Plate, but I'm not sure :b so it would be great if an expert can clarify that for me.

Anyway, back to the Mitchells, I am to pass their love onto you, and also would like to say that Surreyhill's The Witching Hour is a lovely dog  I was very pleased for them, and they received a magnificent carved statue of a curled up whippet that was absolutely beautiful. When I said well done to them at the end, they said thank you so much, although we were very lucky as we had a few byes.

They are a really nice couple and I hope to see them in March at the next event, so if you wanted to send me anything via pm or email, I will gladly pass it on, or maybe Lamping Man or one of the other EAWCC members may see them before?

TCx

The main event in this context is in fact the only event. Just a different way of describing it. If I were to say for example.... it gives me great pleasure to announce it would be like saying.... now listen up you lot. Simple :teehee:

The Mitchells do have email etc although I do not know the address. If you were to pm to me your email address I will pass it to them next time I see them.

They did learn on Saurday for the first time that you were in the UK in some recent times. They were disappointed in not having had the opportunity to meet with you.

Lampy, absolutely brilliant pics again  So many fantastic shots of some lovely dogs

More of my roots, yay, and I think I was as red as Winx's rossette in that bloody photo (w00t) 8) :- "

Really really impressed by them all, and I'm about to pm you my address for a DVD :*

Thanks so much
