Hi Trish,
Well, the wound certainly seems clean and maybe not so red but on looking at the pictures i can't help feeling it needs a stitch!!! but someone here has said you would'nt want it to close up to quick, that i don't understand but maybe they know something i don't!!!

I think its back to the vet to see what they now think

Hugs for the little girl :huggles:   :huggles:   :huggles:

why stitch a burst abcess? it's draining and will heal and close when cleared

it wasnt a abcess patrick ,it was a small piece of grass that had punctured under her tongue, then migrated down and out of her throat.

but i agree it will remain open until the infections cleared inside

heard some good reports on manuka honey might be worth a try

i read about manuka honey awhile ago, sound good stuff  but going to wait until the anti bs are finished then i will see how its looking then

the wound is still producing pus when she eats.

If it's still producing pus, then it's a good job it is open. These type of wounds look horrendous, and the natural thing is to want to stitch them together, but Meddling is right - you don't want it to close yet, or the pus will build up again. She will need AB's at least until the oozing stops, and maybe a different type if it doesn't stop soon. Which type is she on Trish? Some are broader spectrum than others, and she may even need an antimicrobial treatment too. I actually think it looks better, but as someone says it would be good to see pic together to compare

:huggles: for Phoebe

we havent had any pus from it now since sunday, and her anti bs (vetoquinol) finish on thursday.

im just using salt water to clean it then im applying some dermasol after.

this pic was taken this morning before i cleaned it

That's what our vets have always recommended when we've had an open wound, just regular bathing with saline solution (in conjunction with antibiotics). It does look like its healing up a bit now, hope it continues to improve :luck: :huggles:

I can't believe a piece of grass has caused all this trouble to poor Phoebe. :( Wishing her a good recovery :luck:

That pic looks loads better, so glad she on the mend :)

Well Trish,

It certainly looks a bit smaller and it seems like it has knitted together more

inside, good that theres no pus now, so AB'S are working

Are you due back at the vets?

Can't wait for you to post a pic of that wound and its all closed up!!!

poor little girl!!!

But shes on the right road

hugs and more hugs to Phoebe :huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

keep us posted

hi rachel,we wasnt told they wanted to see her again after we went when it first burst,i presume they know we would be back straight away if we felt there wasnt any improvement.

the steroids finished last saturday and theres been no swelling returned which is great news,i will be a little on edge once the anti bs stop but fingers crossed it continues to heal over  will be glad when she totally mended, its been a long struggle (4 weeks saturday coming).

Trish, you've done well there - that looks so much better than it was. You will be amazed at how quickly that shrinks and closes over. Not too soon for you eh?

Looking better - closing up nice and slow, hopefully will disappear totally and become a distant memory nice and soon :huggles:

That looks much better Trish, hope it continues to heal well  :luck:
