It shakes your own confidence too Katie when something happens like this.Im sorry to put this on your thread....

but this was my little Chip in 2000 after he was attacked by a staffy cross...I have had this on a thread before you joined...

this took me a long time to overcome...to the point where I didnt want another dog after Chip went... :( I even had councelling..

ChipforKitty.jpg

he lived another 4 years after this attack I might add, but had medication for the rest of his life due to a punctured lung, and 4 broken ribs... :(

Anyway 8 months after he left for the Bridge I decided to have another go,  and got Oscar and the rest is history.

oh janis poor chip :(

i can agree with the knocking confidence, im not stressing out yet but i think when it come down to taking them out aging later i will be.

and the will probabily be on the lead for a while. :(

they are still both sleeping, but i think i will just be taking them round the block later and hopfully waiting till late to take them to the golf course as its always quiet later on. fingers crossed shes not to shaken about it. :(

:huggles: :huggles: :huggles:

OMG Katie!! How awful! There is so many staffys and staffy x's where I live and i'm so wary of them. I hope poor Star is on the mend and you too of course. I'm sure with lots of TLC she will be back to her normal self again soon :huggles:

Emma x

Dudley sends lots of love and licks

Oh, Katie :( Your poor little girlies  and you must be suffering from shock too

I can't even find word to express how upset I feel that this has happened but I do hope that Star doesn't suffer any lasting psychological hang-ups because of this. She's bound to feel traumatised at the moment :huggles:

Ruby may be feeling upset too and not showing it ...... as far as she knows, she has been terrorised to the point of running away from her sister and her mum and that can have an effect too. She may not be very confident on future walks for a while.

I know 9/10 times it's the owners and not the dogs which cause trouble, but terriers and terrier x types have it in their genes to attack and if uncontrolled and off a lead can wreak severe damage very, very quickly

IMO all dogs should be on a lead in a public place these days (those extending leads give plenty of space whilst keeping control) and at least that go part way to stopping attacks like this happening

Sending lots of :huggles: :huggles: :huggles: and :* :* :* to Star and Ruby and I hope they brighten up soon and Star mends quickly :D

thanks jane, as much as id like to blame the owner, she seemed in as much shock a me, and held the dog flat to the ground while i got star, i got the strong impression that this was the first time the dog had done this, first time or no first time there is still no excusse and if i ever see her again and her dog is off the lead i would go mental at her because now she know that it is capable of doing this.

we will be on lead walks for a while now,

actually i have been taking them to the golf course everyday (very rarley see other dogs its nice and quiet) as i dont have a car at the min, and as OH "was going" to take the day off i pinched his car to take them a bit further a feild some place nicer.

and look how it turned out

1 traumatised owner,

1 traumatised dog,

1 traumatised dog with 2 puncture wonds,

and one very grump OH who has now had to go to work to pay for the £45 vet bill that we now have :(

i think your right about ruby as she has been asleep since aswell. not a peep out of either of them.

think a trip to the pet shop for somthing nice is in order :))

What a horrible thing to happen but thank goodness that man was good enough to hold on to Ruby and ring OH. Poor baby Star, I hope there is no lasting damage to either of your lovely girls.

You must be very shocked also as it has also happened to me and makes you very wary but it does get better and remember there are lots of nice dogs out there and not so many nasty ones.

I must admit that I always feel slightly stressed every time I take Jambo out because of what happened to us but I overcome it by making sure he does not go too far away from me and call him back whenever I see another dog coming. You can usually gauge the situation by the body language of the owner but there are some stupid people out there (which you have just witnessed) and dogs can do unexpected things that they have never done before. I always wear my sturdy boots when we go out (even in the height of summer) as I would not hesitate to kick another dog if it attacked.

It's a fine line, as you want your dogs to socialise with other dogs (especially if you only have 1 dog) but you do have to be on your guard.

:huggles: to you all

the thing is i was looking forward to taking them up to the fun day at caledonian thistle raceing.

im not not so sure its a good idea

all the dogs wil be on leads and under controll, but is that dropping them back in to the deep end by taking them there so soon, or will that maybe do them some good??

So sorry to hear what happened to Star, Katie. :( Thank goodnesss the other dog didn't do too much damage and what a relief that Ruby stayed safe too. Like many of the others on here, I know how shocked it makes you when something like this happens as something very similar happened to Muffin twice before he was a year old. The 2nd time he was pounced upon by 2 GSD, and although they didn't really do any damage (just a little scratch on his heel), it really shook me up and I was close to tears on the rest of the walk. I'm still nervous when I take them out which is a shame because I think the dogs know it and it affects them too.

Hope Star and Ruby (and you) quickly get over the trauma and that Star's wound heals up nicely.

so sorry to hear about poor star :huggles: ,we have just gone through the same thing wiith millie, she as a puncture wound under her ear and it was a staffie that bit her while she was on the lead :( shes doing ok now with the anti bs.

oh i am so sorry :(

it is truly shocking when this happens - talulla was attacked by a staffie just after we moved here - thankfully Stephen was with me as i think i may have fainted!!! (what a great big wally :b )

we were lucky that talulla was wearing a coat which the other dog had got hold of - she came away with no wounds but was very stressed :(

once i had picked myself off the floor i went crazy at the man as he had shouted ahead to warn us that his dog would attack

stephen refused to let me drive home as i could not be trusted not to run the bloke over on the way out of the car park :- "

we now rarely take the girls out as we have 5 acres and access to another 20 that we will be purchasing next year - we are very lucky.

try to carry on as normal as the dogs will pick up on the fact that you are nervous - as someone else mentioned get some Rescue Remedy in for you all to take.

it may be worth getting some Aconite 30c in as well as you never know when these things can happen (it is great for shock )

many, many hugs to you all and email me if you need a chat xx

tracy x

AWWW look at her poor little face :(

:( Poor Star, Im so sorry. Cant see the photos of her, hope she recovers soon :huggles:

:( Poor little Star, hope she's on the mend soon.

Our own boy Wilf was attacked at six months & was badly mauled, leading to lots of stitches. :( He has been attacked twice since, people now think he's a nasty dog :( but he's not, he's a big softy.

But sadly he now suffers from fear aggression.

I do hope this will not be the case with Star.

it must have been a realy shock for you all and i know its hard but get yourself and the dogs out and about as soon as possibel go for your day out espicaily if all dogs there will be on leads. let them say hi to as many types of dog you can there and get them understanding that most dogs are nice. you have to bulid yours and there confidence back up again now. if you know anyone with frendly terrers simaler to the one that attacked star try and get them both to meet up with it and give themnice treets and make it a happy time wheil there still young you can its important to try and get them as relaxed and happy with other dogs about so they wont worry when out.

Its hard when one dog can do so much damedge and alot of the time its not the bite but the stress it caoues you and the dogs. its like riding a hores the sooner you get back on in the sadlles when you fall off the better. if you think you may feel stresed taking them out before you go take some rescue remady becoues if your carm it realy helps them to stay carm aswell.

iv just had them out for a pee, and we past a large lab not on a lead, well star was amazing, waggy tail wanting to play, straight in there for a sniff totaly pulling on the lead, as i had it really short just incase.

so looks like this has not put her off all dogs thank god. :huggles: :huggles:

oh what a nightmare ! Poor girls, I hope that woman muzzles her dog when out with it from now on.

Lucky it wasn't in Star's eye itself, and poor Ruby fleeing like that, made it twice as bad for you.

I hope they stay brave with other dogs and want to play as they have just done, things happen so out of the blue and fast sometimes you can't even see it coming.

You're bound to feel nervous for a while. :huggles:

Hope her swelling goes down without any complications. :luck: :huggles: :huggles:

AWWW look at her poor little face :(

Her face is adroable though.. :huggles: albeit sad :( :(

Katie I just love her dark mask...she is beautiful...her and Sapphire were my favourites out of the girls...

So glad she didnt seem troubled by what happened later on her walk and passing the lab, you must try not to tense up on the end of the lead though, because they seem to sense it...

Poor Star :( :( i hope you and Star have recovered from you nasty experience  i hope you do come along to the fun day as i will be there with Keano who has kindly offered to give Star and Ruby lovely doggie kisses to make them better and if your lucky you might get one too   :huggles:
