Thanks, Becka :D :huggles:

I just found this poem - I think it's been posted before but it sounds very appropriate

Why own a dog? There's a danger you know,

You can't own just one, for the craving will grow.

There's no doubt they're addictive, wherein lies the danger.

While living with lots, you'll grow poorer and stranger.

One dog is no trouble, and two are so funny.

The third one is easy, the fourth one's a honey.

The fifth one's delightful, the sixth one's a breeze,

You find you can live with a houseful of ease.

So how 'bout another? Would you really dare?

They're really quite easy but, oh, Lord the hair!

With dogs on the sofa and dogs on the bed,

And crates in the kitchen, it's no bother, you've said.

They're really no trouble, their manners are great.

What's one more dog and just one more crate?

The sofa is hairy, the windows are crusty,

The floor is all footprints, the furniture dusty.

The housekeeping suffers, but what do you care?

Who minds a few noseprints and a little more hair?

So let's keep a puppy, you can always find room,

And a little more time for the dust cloth and broom.

There's hardly a limit to the dogs you can add,

The thought of a cutback sure makes you sad.

Each one is so special, so useful, so funny.

The vet and food bills grows larger, you owe BIG money.

Your folks never visit, few friends come to stay,

Except other "dog folks" who live the same way.

Your lawn has now died, and your shrubs are dead too,

But your weekends are busy, you're off with your crew.

There's dog food and vitamins, training and shots.

And entries and travel and motels which cost lots.

Is it worth it you wonder? Are you caught in a trap?

Then that favorite one comes and climbs in your lap.

His look says you're special and you know that you will

Keep all of the critters in spite of the bill.

Some just for showing and some just to breed.

And some just for loving, they all fill a need.

God, winter's a hassle, the dogs hate it too.

But they must have their walks though they're numb and your blue.

Late evening is awful, you scream and you shout

At the dogs on the sofa who refuse to go out.

The dogs and the dog shows, the travel, the thrills,

The work and the worry, the pressure, the bills.

The whole thing seems worth it, the dogs are your life.

They're charming and funny and offset the strife.

Your life-style has changed. Things won't be the same.

Yes, those dogs are addictive and so's the dog game

well done jane poacher will have a fantastic life with you and yours :huggles: :huggles:

Jane, my terrier Mollie had her cruciate go at about 2 years old. The other went a year later as she had no knee bones. Surgery was impossible as there was nothing to fix the ligament to. We were advised to give her cage rest and that it would take about 3 months to heal. we were also told that the other one would go ( not relevant in Poacher's case as hers is an injury) but that this one would heal as well. Mollie had a great life, she was pts last year with a bladder tumour, she was over 13. She was never lame and didn't get arthritus either. We did have cortaflex for her to start the healing process ( at least I am fairly sure that is what it was, it was years ago now.) Good luck with her and bless you.

Well done Jinnyfizz. Lets all pray these people don't get another dog now they've off loaded this one. Dogs are animals not china tea pots to be discarded when you break them through no fault of their own. The people that do this type of sport shoud be in a position to look after the injured dog either with their own money or via insurance. Cant believe someone whos pennyless could risk the dangers of hunting.

sadly many working dogs are not rehomed but pts when they cant/wont do the job bred for , it is old school train of thought to NOT pass on a dog with long term injury but to pts , and supposedly stops rescues being full of lurchers etc :- " whether you or i agree or disagree with that decision :(

, at least in this instance i was able to keep her here and rehome her rather than the very sad alternative :(

at least now jane thinks the same way as myself and with time and lots of tlc this little lady can have a long and fulfilling , i shall certainly miss having her here

(w00t) jane...your going to end up with 2 lines of signature piccys soon :- "

Yes, but Jane's trying to be creative with her signature too. She's going for a panel of photos with two of each colour and Irie in the centre. It's an arty thing.......... :- " :teehee: You just need another blue now.... (w00t)

Look forward to hearing how Poacher settles in. You've a heart of gold.....good job you own all those fields :- "

Not been on for a few days, well done to both Tanya & Jane, 2 fab ladies!

Izzy injured her cruciate when just over a year old, I did what the vet advised (he was really good) and gave her glucosamine tablets as advised on here. It was slow and not nice confining her, walking her little and on lead etc, but she made a full recovery without surgery and now tears about like any other looney whippet :- "

Good luck :luck:

Thank you for all your kind comments, everyone, and the encouragement for Poacher's recovery :huggles:

I am now having a long-overdue clear out of my dining room so that I can house her crate when she is at home. We will carry it upstairs at night so that she doesn't have to sleep alone downstairs (she has been used to sleeping with her young owner) and, of course, she will come out with me in the car crate whenever I am at work :)

I truly hope that I can do the best for this little girl, she is still so young and still growing  My greatest wish is to be able to post a video of her running freely again next Spring :luck:
