After leaving school i started training to be a nurse but hated the 6 months i was there. Then at the next college recruitment event i decided i wanted to try nursing again, went to put my name down, but i was in the wrong queue! (w00t)

3 weeks before starting i found i was on the catering course. 6 years i spent at college and spent many years as a pastry chef, then qualified on a Hospitality Management Course, spent 4 months as a Hospitality Manager.

I then moved to Cumbria and got a job as a chef in a pub, which i really enjoyed before i ventured out on my own with a Cyber Cafe. Unfortunately it was wrong time, wrong place so the business failed after a year.

Since then i have been working part time at Matalan, which i do actually enjoy as i have loads of spare time with my whippets.

In September im starting University doing a Canine Bahaviour and Training Diploma and hopefully carrying on to degree level. Its all a big, new challenge for me and who knows what i'll be doing in a few years.

Ok so I fibbed about being colour co-ordinator for fruit pastilles but TBH it sounds less hassle than my current job! :D

I'm a specialist dental nurse in an NHS hospital, we cover facial injuries (Fall out from friday night pub brawls) oral cancers and any dental work that requires a surgical approach e.g. wisdom teeth. We also do orthodontic treatment for patient's with jaw deformities that will eventually have surgery to correct their appearance. It's a very fast paced job at times with a constant learning curve so it keeps me on my toes. I'm hoping that I will soon be training to become an orthodontic therapist which will lead to me treating my own patient's under supervision of a consultant.

I did a lot of studying at Uni, got a BSc & MSc in Environmental Geology and worked in the contaminated land industry for a year or so until I decided I just hated it (w00t) and couldn't cope with it any more - especially as the job wouldn't allow me to have a dog :( or to live in the countryside :( And just didn't inspire me at all :(

So I gave it up when I was invited to come and work for my family business retailing veterinary herbal medicines and dietary supplements :D , I am now the Technical Manager so deal with all the organisation of labs, regulatory affairs, product supply and quality etc etc. I also recently trained also in accounts so do all that side of it as well

I love my job as although I don't work with animals directly, the whole business is about them fundamentally. Its my job to be aware of everything that is going on in the world of dogs and I also love the fact the my grandfather started the business 60 years ago and that sure is something to motivate you to ensure it continues to be a success. :D

Also my whippets sit under my desk

Nothing much has changed since I posted on the thread Helen mentioned, just over a year ago. Still waiting for OH to qualify as a paramedic (takes a while) so still working full time, as a school accounts manager, at a university .
Still dreaming about going parttime or trying something completely different.

Just a dreamer me.

Nicola you could always use your photography knowledge and do some work in that line ...youd be GREAT ;)

up until 3 months ago i worked for BT as a Fault Diagnostics engineer. i have them 20 of the best years of my life and, resigned because of they way they treat their staff. it was unacceptable and it began to make me ill.!!

i could go on and on, but wont bore you with the details. surfice to say, DONT consider working for them even if you are desperate. they are playground bullies and pay peanuts!

they give you 2 mins each time you go to the loo, after that they come looking for you! your in trouble if you need longer!

i currently work as a receptionist/telephonist in a local chemical company who are extremely nice to work for.

my other half is a photographer for the local constabulary (hes one of those who jumps out of the bushes and takes your photograph for his album)

im too embarrassed to say hes a traffic cop!

I did a biology degree at Oxford, but I nearly died of boredom as I am terrible at rote learning. So I got married as soon as I left (he's a solicitor).

I'm learning to become a jeweller, but I also do entomolgical paintings, which I'm trying to figure out how to market. The problem is that they take ages to paint and it simply can't be profitable, so I think I'm going to figure out how to get good quality prints made of them.

I have 2 kids aged 12 and 16 and a wonderful hubbie of 20 years and not to forget my 2 darling whippets. I have worked full time and part time for the last 23 years for the Inland Revenue - don't tell many people this I like to keep it to myself for obvious reasons!!!!!! Sometimes I like my job and hate it at the same time. But for all its faults has been good to me I suppose as I now have lots of time to spend with the kids and the dogs! I have promised myself that once the kids left school etc I will retrain. I quite fancy the dog behavourial course mentioned earlier in this thread. Been watching desperate midwives and quite fancy that job - but maybe this is too many vodka and tonics rose tinting my glasses!!!

Wow...excellent paintings. There must be a demand surely. I'd have some on my wall.

Janis..thank you for your lovely comments.....still saving for my SLR...not long now...so who knows....you may have inspired me.

Hi

I was a radiographer for about ten years (any fellow radiographers out there?) and married a radiographer (how original!), who now teaches radiography. I took about a year and a half out to work as a vet. nurse in some of the larger vet. hospitals in London- it was wonderful, and I still have many memories of the animals I met there.

( Unfortunately I moved on to work at a private vets who was very unscrupulous, which is why I returned to radiography.)

Since having children, I trained as a teaching assistant to fit in with school hours and now work part time as a teaching assistant/art technician at the local secondary school. I find the kids really scary and most of the teachers even worse!!! I feel like I'm on that programme 'Faking It"- can Jan pull it off posing as an art technician with no experience whatsoever?!? The NHS is fraught with problems as we all know, but at least (on the surface!) there is a pleasant sort of smiley , caring atmosphere... well, not so in our school, I can tell you! However, no nights, evenings, weekends and lots of holidays!!

:teehee: Here we go...

I was a classical musician (childhood in a practice room), then studied architecture for two years, then worked in a drawing office and bought a horse.. had a car accident and somebody lamed my horse, so I went back to uni and got an MA in English. Started a Phd, couldn't hack it and now I'm a painter/artist who NEEDS to spend vast amounts of time cuddling my worshiped dogs. One day I'll have a horse again but I ride for neighbours every week just now.

In between all that I've stinted in a bakery, a laundry factory, a public transport unit!, a bookshop (yawn), been a secretarial temp (what a vicious world that is!).

:b :b Life story over :b

Can I just add this for Everyone on K9 including myself....

I had a dream once, it was a nice dream. It didn't come true, but I'm glad I had it. Quote from Clint Eastwood, in Bridges of Maddison County

Once upon a time, in the real world, I was a nursing sister - first in General nursing, then 5 years in midwifery (home and district) then finally settled as a general District sister for over 20 years, until a lung disease (NOT from smoking!! ) and MS forced me to retire. :teehee:

Now I make greetings cards in many different techniques. Some I sell in the local WI market, friends ask for special cards and I also get orders at Christmas. This year my friend next door, who also makes cards, is going to do a stall at the local Goose fair with me. We have so many cards made and need to sell some to cover costs!!

The whips are very helpful when it comes to spreading papers etc on the floor for sorting and they have been roped in for a spot of modelling when a dog card has been called for too :p

I thought I'd miss my work when I had to retire, but I wouldn't have time to go back now - amazing how quickly the hole is filled :)

I worked on a farm till I was 22yrs, then arthrits came :( , so had to give it up. I loved the farm,,,7am starts, not getting home till 10pm :)) , pure heaven it was  . I worked in the farrowing section and loved it :D .

Now im a teacher, nurse, cleaner, cook, in other words a mum (w00t) ,,,the best job ever

John is a superviser at the hospital in the Transport Department. He has worked there since he was 22yr :D
